Loving, Learning Spaces
At Corban Learning, we have created spaces where Children thrive, learn agency and co-operation through daily workshops, storytelling, and peace circles.
Infant
Our program for infants is specific to each child's unique needs. Our infants have a “primary” caregiver who centers her day on the schedules of those she cares for attending to their basic needs for food, diapering, and adequate rest. Infant diapers are checked and changed regularly and all diaper changes, food, and rest times are logged daily along with new milestones. Every moment of a young child’s day offers learning opportunities. The skilled educator catches these moments and helps each baby establish trust, discover and feel good about themselves, tackle a motor task, realize the power of language, and begin to understand this strange new world from many angles. This is accomplished as each teacher attunes to the child's verbal and non-verbal messages.
Toddler
Our Toddler program helps the children practice age-appropriate agency, regulation and relationship skills. We believe in instilling the mindful communication and peace circle process in the children. Though they are young, this a rich time for absorbing and modeling new skills and practices that will build a foundation for learning to resolve issues while feeling confident in their decisions. Our educators are prepared to be flexible and spontaneous in planning for toddlers. Because they are active explorers, toddlers are eager to try new things and use materials differently. Toddlers are working on becoming autonomous. The educated teacher respects this and allows opportunities for the child to be responsible and to make choices. This teacher also understands why certain behaviors are developmentally appropriate and allow the child to be challenged yet to feel support from the teacher.
Preschool
Preschoolers are usually most responsive to activities in which they are involved and interested in a hands-on manner. Our teachers accept that and design their classroom spaces with “learning centers” and workshops where children can freely choose whether to participate and for how long. This teaches them agency and self regulation and instills accountability without shame. Our quality staff rotate and add materials frequently to maintain and extend the child’s interest. Often, our teachers create their games and materials to reflect the interests of the children.
